Art of Work was engaged by BHP to conduct a Learning Team to understand and learn from the recovery of the BHP iron ore train derailment incident that took place in 2019.
The learning team event was an Appreciative Inquiry into a successful and quick operational recovery post the derailment of the train.
Art of Work engaged with the extended recovery team, from line management, technical and operational support, through to those that worked at the site, to examine the recovery event, from the time the train was derailed through to the restoration of rail service.
Art of Work and BHP partnered to develop a tool that assesses the effectiveness of the critical controls in an organisation. This tool has been deployed at BHP sites globally and is being trialed by a number of other organisations.

Art of Work executed a series of safe-to-fail micro-experiments for one of the most significant offshore oil platforms in the North Sea. The program delivered a demonstrable improvement in safety outcomes, an increase in asset availability & reliability, staff engagement and autonomy.
Learnings were replicable and ready to be scaled up and rolled out across other parts of the asset. Consent of the regulators (particularly in the UK) for the micro-experiments were explicitly required.
