the costa concordia tragedy
Rarely Shared Insights - you cannot afford to miss!
Dispel the myth that safety is at odds with profitability and business efficiency
On the 13th January 2012, the passenger ship Costa Concordia collided with rocks and capsized off the island of Giglio in Italy in what became seen as one of the most talked about maritime accidents in history.
What can we learn from this incident?
Drawing on first-hand (video) interviews with the captain, black box data from the ship and extensive research into other high-profile accidents, we have created a fascinating documentary-style narrative of this event that acts as the focus for a LIVE and INTERACTIVE MASTERCLASS run over two afternoon sessions.
Join us for this engaging Masterclass, presented by Nippin Anand, a Principal Specialist in management systems and human factors, who will introduce you to a systematic analysis of the events leading up to, during and after the capsizing of the Costa Concordia. Hear first-hand the rarely shared perspective of the ship’s captain who found himself at the heart of the investigation.

Together, the two sessions will narrate the story of one of the most high-profile accidents in the maritime sector. Drawing on multiple disciplines – anthropology, social sciences, psychology and technical sciences to make sense of a complex set of events that unfolded before, during and after the accident. Having completed the two sessions, participants will have built a strong foundation in advanced concepts in safety and human factors, and importantly, be able to take the concepts and apply them in their workplace; whatever their industry sector. Due to the sensitive nature of the data, this master class will not be recorded.
AIHS members will be awarded 20 CPD points.
